a word of advice to all the junior operators working trippers this aft

to any junior operators working trippers (aka express routes) this afternoon. remember, thers only two timepoints along the route, the begining point and finishing point. dont bother waiting ur time if ur early. yes, youll porbably finish ur trip 10+ mins early but u wont get into shit for doing so.

expresses are always fun to do on christmas eve during the afternoon- hardly anyone rides them!!!

if planning was smart, they would put expresses during the lunch hour wen all the civil servants get off work early. ohwell..

Not cool... (but cold!)

I understand we're on a weird schedule this week, however if OCTranspo phone line, online, and the fact I caught the bus I was waiting for yesterday, leads me to believe that a bus is going to come at a certain time, I should not be waiting 40 minutes for a bus that comes every 20 mins (I finally gave up and took a different bus because I was frozen standing on the side of Strandherd with cars whipping up wind into my face).

The weather wasn't that bad between 4:30 and 5 *except for it being cold* for buses to just not show up, however, conspicuously "Out of Service" buses came by around the time the buses should have come, and let people off just past the stop.

So if drivers decided that since there's really only 4 stops between where I was and the end of their route (which is 1.3km, and a nice walk in nice weather, but impossible to walk in snow unless you want to walk down Strandherd Drive in the middle of rush hour since there's no sidewalks... which I do not), then that is NOT COOL.

Happy New Year, Grinchy X-mas

So once again the city is offering free bus service on new years, but I wonder why they have never thought about giving the gift of free bus service to people who are trying to get to free dinners, friends or family ect. Also curious what drivers are told to do if someone doesn;t have the fare on X-mas. And what drivers on here plan on doing?

Really?

If your transfer is balled up in your fist, I'm going to ask to see it. And I'll point out non-confrontationally that it is impossible for me to see it balled up in your fist, lady.

So save the attitude, save cutting me off and being snarky. I have no idea that you just got off another bus, nor do I care, 'cause really, you could have shown a balled up piece of paper to the other driver and he just didn't want to go through the hassle.

Just show your transfer clearly. That's all. It's not hard, nor am I being an asshole by asking to see it. Show it clearly and you can avoid all of this.

Blogger's view of HO HO HO

Came across this post in the Elgin Street Irregulars. A little intemperate, but on a very cold day I can sort of see 4th Dwarf's point!

The No. 12 this afternoon

According to the posted timetable and the online version, passing times for the eastbound No. 12 at Queen and Bank on weekday afternoons are 4:08, 4:14, 4:20, 4:26, 4:32, and 4:38 p.m.

For those unfamiliar with the route, this is the THIRD stop after the run starts at Kent and Slater. (At least, it's third when the driver deigns to stop at Kent and Slater and doesn't claim it's just a "rest stop", and not a real one, and when the driver actually stops at Kent and Queen for pax, instead of racing down the middle lane, ignoring you, to make the right turn onto Queen.)

Does ANYONE have any clue why all five of the runs from 4:14 to 4:38 this afternoon failed to show up? All of the other Queen Street buses seemed to have no problem.

Collecting Fares *Before* Boarding

May I humbly suggest that we consider moving the collection of fares off the buses at some stations along the Transitway? This tactic may also be considered for application at one or two other locations, such as in the downtown core or at Carlingwood Mall.

While many people would assume that barriers have to be placed between the outer area and area entered once the fare has been paid (usually referred to as the "Fare Paid Zone" in some places), this does not necessarily hold. Some systems, such as the automated LRT system known as Skytrain in Vancouver, have no such barrier, though they do have traffic cops with about the same scope of authority as Ottawa's do.

What do others think? As always, this inquiring mind would like to know.

400 series hockey bus service and passenger abuse

I got to lay it out to you guys. Please don’t use the 400 series buses as your local commuter. Yesterday almost all 400 series buses left the garage late due to buses shortage (average of 15 minutes late). Drivers were struggling to get the fans to the game before the puck hit the ice. What do we have on board? People are ringing bell to get of local stops where we are not stopping to pick up any? Can you wait your precious couple of minutes and get the local bus coming 2 minutes behind us? Also please stop asking which way I am heading or my route description. It is going to game and if you are not, IS NOT YOUR BUS!

If this behaviour continues, I wish the city will change the policy of one drop off at the final event stop.

Statistics for Paid Accounts

Statistics are here!

You can now see the number of people who have visited your journal, your individual entries, a chart of comments, readers of the RSS feed of your journal, and the last 100 logged-in users who have visited your journal directly (if you've enabled My Guests).

Things you should know:
-Stats are completely anonymous (only My Guests is tied to username); only numbers are recorded, not any other information
-The times and dates in the graph are based on server time, which is UTC/GMT
-The light grey number at the top left corner of the graph is the statistical outlier
-While the graph may go back in time to this summer, the stats-gathering server was not on constantly, so previous stats may be missing. Today, and going forward, full stats are collected and displayed.
-If you opt out of My Guests (meaning that your username will not show up on other people's reports and you will not be able to view your My Guests tab), it does not affect your use of the rest of the Stats - if you're a Paid or Permanent user, you'll still be able to see all the rest of the information on this feature

and the voice of reason speaks again...

http://communities.canada.com/ottawacitizen/blogs/greaterottawa/archive/2009/12/16/mayor-threatens-transit-lockout.aspx

To add to David's comments, I'd like to point out that the Mayor has done nothing to aid labour relations between the union and the city.

-and-

Lock me out, I qualify for EI. So go ahead Larry, lock me out in the summer. You gave me the head's up to save in advance, and I'm ready to collect EI while I sit by the pool.

A Penchant for Portions

Okay, so, here's the thing:

I'm a big fat guy. And I ain't gettin' no smaller.

I can't really walk all that far But I like to go for walks, even in the winter. And in the winter, when I go outside I like to have a seat to rest a bit before I walk home just like in the summer.

Here's the problem. In the winter I usually have a seat in a bus shelter not far from me and it has a small bench, maybe five feet wide altogether. There is a divider in the seat - a big red curved pipe that mimics the arms on either side of the seat. Unfortunately when wearing my winter coat I can't fit in the apportioned space the divider creates. That is to say, the divider makes two seats and I don't fit in one of them with a winter coat on anymore.

Now, I know I am likely to get told to go pound salt up my ever expanding ass, but if I was to put in a request to OC transpo to remove the divider (because you can I think, it's bolted to the seat) or put a damn seat in that doesn't make you have a regulation sized ass to sit in it, where should I go with that request? To whom should I direct it in that company?

Thanks.
